What is the difference between a Water Purifier and Water Filter?
The EPA has defined pure water as water free from all types of bacteria and viruses. Purifiers remove chlorine, bacteria, virus, fungi and parasites to name a few. Viruses are microorganisms and some are too tiny to be trapped by a filter. Seagull IV purifiers and First Need (Travel) Purifiers use micro straining and electrostatic technology to capture viruses, bacteria and contaminants.
A water filter is designed to remove unwanted particles, sediments and chemicals but it is not recommended for the removal of bacteria and viruses. In Australia practically every municipal water system implements water chlorination for this purpose ie. water that reaches a homes plumbing will already have been disinfected through chlorination. Water filters then remove the chlorine and chlorine resistant parasites like cryptosporidium and giardia.

Cartridge Replacement
Water Purifier cartridges found here do not have an expiry date, they purify the specified litres of water and it doesn't matter how long this takes. Amazing technology; the purifier cartridge will prevent bacteria growth even when water is stagnent. You can go on holiday for any length of time and come back to clean, safe, great tasting, purified water. With regular daily use (for drinking & cooking) in a household of four people a purifier cartridge will need replacing after approximately 2 years.
Water Filter catridges must be replaced every 12 months.
